Ok, here is my question, I just bought a 69 Jeepster Half Cab, the VIN on the registration is different than the number on the tag on the firewall. The registration has 7614F263517 and the metal tag 8705F1726526. According to the information I found on : http://forums.off-road.com/jeepster-american-jeepster-club/62136-jeepster-what-year-3.html

    Chassis code
    87 - 4WD C101

    Body styles
    01 - Jeepster convertible
    02 - Commando convertible
    03 - Hurst edition (1971 only)
    05 - Open body

    Model codes
    F - Station wagon
    H - Pickup (halfcab)
    O - Roadster

    Drive codes
    1 - Right hand drive
    2 - Left hand drive

    Engine codes
    4 - F4-134
    5 - F4-134 smog
    6 - V6-225
    7 - V6-225 smog

So if this breakdown is correct the tag on the fire wall says it is a 4x4 V6 open body wagon??? Did people convert these into half cabs?
Are there other ways to tell if it is an original half cab?

    dead horse (because its funny)

Just brought my new one home. From what I can tell its a 69. The guy I bought it from is a buddy's uncle and says its been sitting since at least 91. There are Washington plates inside as is a T98 and Dana 20.
Is there a tag missing? There are four holes above the vin tag that are spaced apart as if an additional tag was in place.

There should be a build tag on the drivers door post

    Nada.
It appears this Jeepster has been repainted. Was the tag a sticker or a metal plate? It cracks me up that the vin plates are screwed on, first vehicle I have ever seen like this.
Where would I find a vin # on the frame or is there even any?

Build date tags didn't show up on the door frame until 1970. There is a VIN number on the frame, passenger side back the engine frame mount, on top of the frame rail. It's just the 5 digit sequential number. No there wasn't another tag above the VIN, could be a PO had something else mounted there or maybe moved the tag down. And unless somebody changed it would have either a T14 or a T86 tranny. $sink could tell you the year, PM him.

    trickpatrick Done? LOL

I have a 69 with those holes also.
