ok, let me make sure i have this right. My running lights/turn signals all work. for the brake lights to work when the brake is applied (Pressure switch) one side of the switch goes to 12v power source, and the other side to the turn signal/flasher switch? no wires go from the pressure switch to the actual tail lights?

Should be a wire to 12V+ on one side of the switch and a wire to your brake light in the rear. Check the wiring diagram in the tech section to be sure.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Should be 12v on input side of switch and on vehicles equipped with turn signals the output from the brake light switch goes through the turn signal switch. From the turn signal switch it goes to the tail and brake lights. This allows the turn signals to flash when brakes are applied. Other wise the brake lights would stay on and as they are brighter than the tail lights there would be no flashing of the light to indicate turning.
Like Sparky said, check the wiring diagram to verify which wires hook where. Nickmil.

got it working, thanks fellas! now its REALLY time to go for a drive.. on the road >:D

  5. Nick: Great info. Since both my brake lights and turn signals stopped working at the same time, it looks like I should start by seeing if I have 12V going to the pressure switch. If I do, the prob is further down the line--and go "fuse" hunting!R)

would air in the lines prevent the pressure switch from working properly? because everything is hooked up but still no brake lights.

You have 12V to the switch on the MC?

It's not ON the mc.. inline with the hardlines. anyways yes 12v to one side and the other side goes to turn signal / flasher Then from turn signal switch back to the lights (running, and stop/turn)

You need to trace the power. Do you have power coming out of the switch when the brakes are applied? Do you have power going into the turn signal regulator? If you have power in but not out, then you will have to disassemble the regulator and check the contacts. Chances are that if there is damage in there, you will have to replace it.

problem solved. pressure switch was bad.. replaced and all is well.

So those switches do actually actuate the brake lights? I have what I think is the same setup you're describing out of a DJ5C. I thought that they just actuated the idiot light on the dash if you lost braking power. Go to http://www.postaljeep.net/DJ5Cbrakes.htm and scroll down to "Figure 0-6". Is this the same thing your're describing?

The wire terminal in the middle of the valve runs the idiot light. The pressure switch on the end runs the brake lights.
