Hi fellas, can somebody please help me?
Chevy flywheels fit on the Buick V6 engine, but they have different (153 or 168 ) teeth counts. The Buick flywheel has 160 teeth, so the starter will not work on a Buick engine with a Chevy flywheel. Can somebody please tell me if Chevy and Buick used the same diameter flywheel with just different ring gears or did they use completely different flywheels.

You see, I need to import a Buick flywheel from the USA to South Africa and shipping cost on a heavy flywheel is going to kill me. If I can only import a Buick ring gear and fit it on my Chevy flywheel I will save a lot!!

    Thank you for your advice.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Sorry Frans but Chevy used 168 tooth and 153 tooth flywheels. They are also balanced completely different. You are going to need a Buick Flywheel.:( Nickmil.

If you have an old odd-fire engine--- 1961-1975 you could use a flywheel from a Buick automobile of those years. These are lighter flywheels.

Buick V6 (1977 and on )Even-fire flywheels will bolt on but are not ballanced properly for an odd-fire engine.

    Thanks guys,
My problem is: I am in South Africa and you don't find Buick flywheels anywhere. Chevy flywheels are all over the place (and they do fit on the Buick engine). If I can just find out if a Buick ring gear will fit on a Chevy flywheel, my problem could be solved. Yes, I realise that I will have to ballance the flywheel.
    Thanks for your help.

Maybe you could see if you could swap nose gear on the Buick starter to match up to the chev ring gear or find a chev starter that will bolt to a Buick motor. Seem to remember the bolt pattern on my old '78 GMC starter being very simular to the starter on the jeep - but don't have them to compare.
