Functioning as it's designed to do of course and checking the level at any point in time not just when it's cooled down. (y)

Somewhere I heard that, initially, coolant recovery was more of an anti-pollution device than for cooling performance. Much of the ejected coolant goes into storm drains and culverts and ends up in the water table. Seems reasonable.

It sure seems that would be the most logical, initial reasoning behind it. Safely monitoring the level is certainly a plus.

Update. I mounted the bracket and tank. Pretty high on the passenger fender but below the top of the radiator. It is Very sturdy. Thanks everyone for your input.

    Nice!

I used a bicycle water bottle mount and an aluminum water bottle. Drilled a hole in the cap for the radiator feed and added a couple 90* fittings on the side with a piece of clear plastic tube for a sight glass. Works great, compact, inexpensive to make, and the bottle lifts right out if I need to remove it. Sorry no pics at this time.
