Not sure if it is visible in the picture but there is a very deep haze on the edges of my window. Any suggestions on how to clear it up? I’ve used bestops window cleaning product multiple times on it to no avail. The middle section of the window clears up really well but there is a very noticeable difference in feel and visibility between the areas.

    Thanks

I used some stuff on my 77 in about 1991 that worked wonders. I don't recall what it was, but it took my plastic windows from non see through to crystal clear...Not much help i know, other than to tell you that a product does exist that worked.

Yeah. The bestop product does well for the light haze but not the heavy haze. it is just about non see through

I use this Mcguires product on greyish haze on clear plastic headlights with great results but I have to apply it often. Don't know if it is okay for softtop windows? 20191003_181448-756x1008.jpg 20191003_181516-756x1008.jpg Fine print says it is "safe" for convertible windows... are softtop windows made from the same type of plastic as convertible windows?

You might try a heat gun on the clear plastic. It appears to work wonders for revitalizing other plastics that have sun damage and fading. All kinds of articles and how-to's on the interwebz.

Most DIY'ers seem to agree on ---"Don't use too much heat, move the gun around constantly and don't touch the plastic until it's totally cooled. Obviously make sure it's thoroughly clean before you start."

    Never tried it though... [IMG]

McGuires make the plastic polish for soft top windows that works well. Probably the same stuff as posted above. I’m almost out but 20 plus years ago McGuires sold two different products, one for cleaning and one for polishing. I’ve heard good things about Novus but have never used it. Mother’s may have something also.

we used "miror" to make tranparent the parts of helmets in polycaronate. It is a liquid to polish copper. you take time, 10 mn work.In fact a mild abrasive. Istill use it.

Anything "polish" is going to contain an abrasive. This isn't necessarily bad, but you need to choose the proper polish for a soft plastic like this.

I have had good results maintaining my plastic windows with 303 Protectant.

My dad was a Helo mech in the late 50's to mid 1960's and we always used Johnsons paste wax on the soft top windows on our Kayline top worked pretty well. He said they used it on plexiglass canopies in the military.

Mcguires also has a produce called Mirror Glaze #10 that works well. They also have a cleaner, Mirror Glaze #17.

You are correct the novis plastic polish comes in different grits. the heavy scratch green label and the regular red label. also at the bus garage we used to use lemon pledge furniture polish on the new bus boy mirrors that were plastic for maintenance to keep them looking like new. I think I will use that on my new jeep top when I get around to putting it on to protect.
