Hanging Pedals

Can anyone suggest a good set of hanging pedals for a 62 CJ5? Not from a "newer" jeep, we do not have them down here in South Florida. I am talking about from a more modern car that is common on the junk yards. Same thing for an MC. Thanks!

 

Modern? Why pull it yourself when you can buy it on Ebay or here and have it shipped for less? I used a set from a later wrangler with the integral light switch and the corresponding booster/master with provision for hydraulic master as well. It was 47 bucks with shipping.

The roxor might be the answer, but the booster and the standoff to allow the clutch master to fit may be an issue?

I used the YJ assembly because parts are cheap and available anywhere. Anything can be made to work and lots of guys have used wilwood stuff to great success

Your application will be different than mine as I have a CJ2a and the cowl is much shorter. You may find that It bolts right in. Others can chime in with their experience for retrofitting a CJ5.

 

Model and year of the Wrangler, please!

 

Check locally with Riva Watersports. They're the local Roxor dealer near you. Others on this forum have successfully used the Roxor pedals, along with the vac booster and master cylinder. For new parts, the prices seem reasonable.
I priced the Roxor front seats from the Keys Riva dealer, and the price was great, but shipping to the Keys was more than the seats!

When mounting the pedals, do you only use the mounting holes on the wall or somehow modify the top section to accommodate some type of fasteners for the top part of the pedal assembly? I do not see how to bolt that section without it showing on the outside.

This is not a bolt in mod. It's going to require tools and ingenuity. There are many places to do your research. You're going to need to do a search using your favorite search engine and then decide if its challenge you want to undertake. I cannot, nor can anyone here, tell you how your project is going to go. Thats for you to decide and execute, or not. Good luck!

 

Regardless of what set-up you do. It will take measuring and planning and drilling and basic fabrication. You will have to at least:
-Reinforce the firewall.
-Decide what do do with your brakes. Power? Manual? Disk?
-Decide what to do for your clutch. Cable? Hydraulic? Which slave (push or pull)? Which m/c?
-Decide on some pedals and parts that will work for those decisions.
-Work around your steering column.
-Remove/relocate anything in the way
-Mock-up the plan.
-Drill holes and fabricate and maybe weld. Fit things in. Remeasure. Measure again. Probably cut or bend the pedal rods.
-Then there's linkage and return springs and brake lines and adjustments and bleeding the lines and checking for leaks.

There's some common swaps like the XJ Pedals, but they are all a custom deal.

 

Here is an option. Advanced Adapters makes a basic swing pedal assembly for these old Jeeps. They say the kit does not work with discs. I can't see why the brake pedal could not be modified to work with a disc compatible master cylinder...it's just a lever pushing on a rod.

As Chris said there is no bolt in application. All will require some moderate fab skills. Usual suspects are Cherokee, intermediate to late CJ's, Wranglers etc. Obtain as much as you can from the donor to ease things. Note that the length of the pedal arm from the pivot point can not be deviated much from without upsetting the mechanics and causing poor performance.
Mine are from a Nissan Frontier. I started by making a plate to both reinforce the firewall and to assemble the booster and master cylinders to. Prior to this I made a cardboard booster mock up to get as high as possible and check valve cover clearances. Not much room in a flatfender...the assembly through bolts to the pedal assembly(s)under the dash. I had to rework the pedal angles while closely matching the original length. It's an in depth project with lots of cad ( cardboard aided design) which included more than one frustrating rework however it is well worth it and transforms the driveability.
Worth noting the Frontier clutch and brake assembly's are divorced, giving you some shuffle flexability under the dash. In my case I was able to get them closer together. Many of the Jeep applications the pedals are on a common setup dictating spacing.

 

I'll being this as well....I found a guy partying out a yj, I grabbed everything I needed from it as far as the pedals...It will be work.

 

I’ve wondered about the AA set up. Besides wanting to change it out for Wilwood stuff (I’ve read some of your old posts on it), how is that single reservoir m/c working with disc/drums?...of course AA says it won’t work.

 

Single reservoir will work for brakes, but why use it if you're retrofitting to disks? Dual circuit are safer in case of brake line failure and are similar or cheaper in price.

 

That's obviously a good point. As I'm running disks in front I don't think I'd do it. I've always wondered about the AA pedals themselves is all. They seem to fit really well and are built for the old CJ's. I've had pretty good luck with the AA stuff.
