Yup, looks high to me. FWIW Rough Country sells a high pinion D30 and D30 & D27 covers interchange.

    nickmil In mothballs.

Just be aware if you use the high pinion cover on a low pinion diff the oil level will be too high. This can cause leaks and other issues.

nickmil- The fill hole is higher than the cover I took off and I did fill the oil to the new higher level, should I pump some oil out? do you know how much oil should go into a 27 axle? I probably have close to 3 quarts in there now, I started with a gallon so it will be easy to check for sure.

    Thanks,
    Chip.

I found this on another forum, but it is a 1964 Scout with a D27.
    Dana 27 - 80/90 hypoid gl5 gear oil, about 2 1/4 pints.
My D30 fill hole is much lower than that, as was the D27.

Keep in mind any capacity numbers will be off if the dimensions inside the cover are not the same as origional.
