My lug nut just spins on the threaded rod. It doesn't come out anymore. I'm kind of at a loss. Do I get a grinder out and grind the nut and stud off?
The lug nut freely spins on the wheel stud

Is it a left hand lug? Might try spinning it the other way. If not then a small die grinder with a 3" cutoff wheel works well. Just keep it off the rim.

Don't think so. The passenger sides came off easy enough. Will try to tighten them in hopes they come off.

By God if you were a woman I would give you the biggest kiss I could right now.

Now why on earth would they put left hand thread lug studs on one side and standard Lefty Lucy's on the other side?

    Is it front or rear?
If front, take the wheel and hub off as one assembly by removing the big nuts on the spindle (behind the lockout hub if equipped). It will be much easier to grind it off from the backside where the stud's flange is flat, rather than trying to not damage the wheel around the taper.

Another issue is going to be keeping the new (replacement) stud from spinning.

    Bowbender I'm workin' on it!

I believe the thinking of the left hand thread lugs was to resist the loosening effect of the wheel rotation.
I nearly blew a gasket and twisted off a lug wrench learning this lesson as a kid on my '62 Ford pickup. Is there an "L" on the end of the lugs?

Because Jeep. If you look close it may say "L" on the tip of each stud.

Actually it was standard practice on many vehicles of the day. Thought everyone knew that...

If my wife gets a flat (It's her jeep), she isn't going to know to turn it right to loosen the lug nut.

You can press in new studs when you have the hubs off. No problem, if that's what you want.

Standard practice to always change them out. Not worth losing two every time you get a tire changed.

Im surprised they still used left hand lugs so late I thought they stopped that mid 50s

I wonder if they stopped it maybe after '63 when the name Kaiser started being used? Just throwing that thought out. I know my '62 wagon had them.

You ought to leave them, just for the quirkiness. It's the same way on vintage British cars with the one lug nut per wheel, or "knockoffs".

    The Smiting of the Knockoffs

I didn't know they were present on Kaiser Jeep until reading a myriad of topics on this forum. Many thanks, forum. (y)

You might have the answer there Glenn. My '62 wagon has leftys on the one side, but my '64 Tux has all right handed lugs all the way around.
