    One more layer, IMHO.

Cut it and collapse it, with sawzall or chisel, air zip-gun, or oxy-acetylene torch.

Or drive out with a drift the same diameter, and some thread-rod or a BFH.

Exactly what Pete said. I got mine out with an air chisel and some colorful language :D. I used an air chisel but also had luck using a piece of all-thread and 2 sockets: one the size of the sleeve and one larger than the sleeve. Put nuts and washers on either end and start cranking. It will draw the smaller socket through (along with the sleeve) out the other side and into the larger socket.

It looks like the weld is cracked on one side maybe? The factory welds on mine don't look at all like the ones on yours so could be bubba'd on there

The weld is cracked on the far side + that is the worst weld I , myself, have ever laid my eyes on !!! BuBBa Just laid in wire weld 'till he thought he filled 'er up ! May want to start over ..... Fresh ? ( That way...... You would'nt need to drive out the rest of that Bushing.

Oh man, the amount of Bubba-craft on this poor old Jeep has been pretty astounding. I've got a long list of things to un-Bubba. As ugly as those stacked welds are, (and they are awful) I'm reluctant to do surgery and lose more rivets that I'm not sure I can replace (yet). I'm going to see if I can get the bushings out and live with the shackles for now (and after I grind out and re-weld the cracked factory welds on the shackle pivot bolt tubes). A friend of a friend here in town has an ornamental and structural blacksmithing shop, and I'm hopeful I can bring the frame over to him after work one night and use his tools and expertise to smash in rivets instead of bolting all the frame stuff back together.

On that note - is this rectangular cross member (the one between the axle x-member and the front x-member, it has my grinder behind it) a Bubba addition? What in the world would he have done that for?

That is an aftermarket radio or CB removable mount. Not stock...

Good. I want it out of there. There is a mount for a mic above it, so it makes sense.

I used those for mounting my under-dash 8 track!
There are probably some of this forum that don't know what an 8 track is.
