On this thread so far – V6 emblem variations:
    1. Red V Black 6 with Gold/White/Red background
    2. Black V Black 6 with Gold/White/Red background
    3. Red V Black 6 with Black/White/Red background
The original post question still remains.

Ok. My '67 tux is the set that is black/white/red. The black is chipping away in the corner and appears to be gold underneath??

The ones off my old '70 (in hand) are gold/white/red.

Well, we have two sources with black/white/red emblem backgrounds (post #17 and #22). So, it brings additional questions--"Genuine" article? What significance?

A crucial thread for us detail fanatics. Pity that a lot of the pics got botoPhucked. :(

To those that have an intact emblem, the colors are a metallic gold, plain white and a sort of tomato red/red-orange?

My emblems were painted over but I'm going to clean them up and repaint them with some model paint.
I guess most paint strippers will remove all paint and not just the topcoat...

I can't find my original image, so here are two new ones. Here's the '67 Tux with black (painted over gold?)/white/red background:

And here is a badge off my old (late '69) '70 CJ5:

I have no reason to believe either were ever altered in any way.

Was the black band a Tux option?

Or is the gold worn off exposing the black?

Definitely black on gold. It's super thin and flaking off.

Other than the ones shown here for Jeeps, anyone know if there was ever an odd fire emblem? Just in general, I know there wasn't one for/on the Jeeps.

These were on my 66 CJ 5 and will be again, once I paint her spruce tip green, her original color.

I had never even considered any type of variation for for Renegade or Tuxedo Park models. The plot thickens.

I did not know if the black V and black 6 on the '71 renegade was a renegade thing or all '71 V-6's where that way.
I'm sure someone will help us out.
My '69 seems consistant with red V and black 6 and gold/white/red w/ posts

ITLKSEZ wins the forum and the greater interwebz for the outstanding, hi-res pics. And the rest of you too; Walt, zootin for the contributions.

I did a little outside research on the emblem colors but such info is scarce. What I did find was color research from other forums but the original photos were trashed by the Photobucket scourge. I gleaned/borrowed/stole it from this forum/thread: Kaiser Era Emblem Paint Colors - International Full Size Jeep Association

There's several options since the gold and the red/orange are not just simple generic colors......
Another said International Orange 12197 appears pretty close on the orange.
    And then finally:
I believe I'm going to go with the above because that's a Testors color and the gold too, although I might mix my own.

A photo preview (blurry/broken link) of the Hemi Orange on a test strip seems convincing enough.

I took this off my '66 Tux in 1970 when I got a new tub for my Jeep. Nothing has been done to it since then...

Some of the stuff I still have...

Hey Bum, is that emblem an original and refurbished or a repro or...?

The colors look a bit more vivid than the norm.

For the record, my '68 CJ5 has a Red V Black 6 and the usual Gold/White/Red background.
No photos because it's been savaged by an overcoat and then paint remover.
    It also has the studs.
