    Morning,
Ive got a 66 -so dana 44 tapered.Pulled the axles ,removed seals -everything looks good.
Question -Do the new bearings need to be pressed on?
I pressed the old ones off so logically ......
    Thanks Wade

Yes they do. The cone, or bearing, is a press fit onto the axle shaft. The wheel bearings are sometimes referred to as axle bearings in this application.

I guess I should have been more descriptive. I just went through this process. Aren't they "pressed" once everything is tightened up? I remember tapping the race into position but I didn't "press" anything. No slop, no play and no problems.

The bearing presses onto the axleshaft. The race is a slip fit or slight press fit into the housing. There are shims to set axle endplay/bearing-to-race clearance.
