    Folks:

I picked up these axles on a parts acquisition run. Front is a D 30 set up for disc brakes. The rear has me puzzled though. I think it a centered D 44, but I'm not sure.

Can you guys give me a hand?

Reason I'm asking is that I want to get rid of them. I really don't need them, and would rather see them go to somebody that can use them.

    Thanks,

Being you have the cover off. What is the gear ratio?

    nickmil In mothballs.

Rear is a centered 44 of some vintage. Can't tell from my phone. Looks to have a Detroit locker.

Well, it never came with a cover...

Not sure which set of numbers to divide?

    50-11 is 4.55, which isn't a ratio that Jeep used in a 30-44 combo.

So it's likely been regeared. If the 30 matches, it would be a desirable ratio.

Measure the wheel mount spacing to WMS, and pad to pad distance. Possible it's a 30 wide track with a matching centered rear 44 - quite sought after. It could also be a 72-75 CJ axle set, or 73-73 COmmando, that's been regeared.

When the monsoon subsides later I'll give that D30 a better look. Now to do a little web research on what a Detroit locker looks like. Would there be any markings on it for ID?

Opened up the D30 and this is what I found:

[IMG] ( I don't know why this photo is not as big as the other. . .) Ring gear has 41-9 on it.

Doesn't look too good in there. I guess these are probably going to go to the scrap man. . .

Anybody have any need for parts from these before I either scrap them or put them on Craigslist? Not too sure if there is anything good here.

1st yikes, looks rusty, 2nd would you happen to have those wms measurements? i may be interested in your boat anchors. 1 mans trash is another mans treasure

Neither axle has the actual axle shafts installed, so where would I measure from that would give the "right" measurement?

I suppose you could measure the flange to the flange on the rear, also center of perch to center of perch might help. for the front you could measure ball joint to ball joint. also perch to perch on this one would help too.

You can guess on how far out the flange would be. It should be accurate enough to rule in/out the possibilities. I see some value there, at least in the gears in the D44. It would be worthwhile to clean it up, measure the WMS and pad spacing and determine what you have.

Finally got a chance to do some measuring.

    D44: 45 5/8" flange to flange. 27 1/4" perch to perch.

    D30: 40 1/2" castle nut to castle nut . 27 1/4" perch to perch.

Do the above measurements make sense, and help identify the axles?

The rear is the same measurements as my 73 rear dana 44 from a cj5. I think the front is the same as the narrow track dana 30. Were these sitting in water?

The guy I got them from had them in his garage but had a roof leak during Sandy but thought they stayed dry. Right now the 44 is inside and the 30 is out.

So I've had a couple people PM with interest in these, but I have no idea of their value. I don't necessarily want to give them away, but I don't want to gouge or get a premium for them either. Just a fair amount to help me along with my own build. Any thoughts on price would be appreciated.

Thanks to all that have helped so far.
