Everything he wrote is 100% correct. It is in the end all mathematical and he is absolutely right the engine is just an air pump and can be predicted very accurately. That does not mean that a carb that is not jetted correctly can't work, in fact if the engine revs fast enough and efficient enough a smaller motor can use the CFM. But, he is still right, it is not really a matter of opinion despite your perceptions with your past experiences. Even though he is right there is always ways to tune and drive an engine to over come those facts, just as there are ways to overcome wind resistance and do things that would be easier using a less resistant design to begin with

If your carb is working on your engine the way you want it, I say cool

I guess the proper answer is what you said, my past experiences says the actual displacement of the cylinders matter more than the total displacement.I learned thisfrom messing with carburetors, not theoretical math................Of course my statement isn't universal...

    To lighten this up....

Do you know the difference between a design engineer and a mechanic?

A design engineer designs and builds it.

    A mechanic

    Wait for it

    Makes it work :)
