Since I am planning on running a 8K winch and 800 CCA dual type battery on my cj2A, I installed a Delco 105 amp marine 10Si one-wire alternator on my L134. The wiring schemes I have seen show a primary direct connect to the ammeter. I have a couple of questions:

    1. If hooked up directly I think it will smoke the 30 amp ammeter I have in the dash. I think I need a 100+ amp ammeter. Right?

    2. I am very uncomfortable with that much energy going through the dash panel - even if it is fused. I thought I might be able to install a shunt near the alternator and pass the primary direct to the battery then to a fused distribution panel.

    Any ideas that might help?

I'd give up on the ammeter entirely & go with a voltmeter or even just an idiot light run off the appropriate terminal on the alternator.

Don't forget to upsize the wire from the alt to the battery/solenoid/distribution point of choice, for 100 amps I'd go with a #4, or even a # 2 gauge cable.

Put in a fuseable link to the dash power distribution point if you don't have a 30 amp breaker on the back of the light switch and/or fuse panel.
