The block was decked because the new Sealed Power 231 pistons turned out to be approx. 0.1 inch lower, or "shorter", at TDC than the original 225...
My Dauntless likewise has 231 pistons. The only issue was that the 225 block had to be decked around 0.1" or so in order to use them.
I believe the over-the-engine routing of the Dauntless fuel lines was first used sometime during the middle to latter part of the 1967 model year...
