Need a little help..... 66 Cj5 with 2.5" of lift. Im a newbie to the jeep world, and am working on a frame off restoration. Frame's done, axles rebuilt (DANA 27 front DANA 44 rear). Im just curious What you guys think,,, Tall skinny original wheel and tire combo, or something like 33's on 15x10's??? I'd like for the jeep to have a really nice stance.

Is there anything i can get that has the heighth of a 33x12.50 without the width? I'd like to keep it "close" to stock with some heighth to it. If so, what could be a good source to find something like this, and what size??? Thanks,,,,

Not that you need to hear it again but I run 33 x 10.5 on 8" rims. Perfect combo for a cj5. I ran them on my wranglers and great for them as well. I would not go bigger given the wheelbase. I have 2.5" lift and if you adjust the stops on the front they do not hit the springs. I do have a dana 30 front with disk breaks and it is a shade wider. Cant go wrong with 33 x 10.5's.

2.5" BDS springs & 31x10.50x15 tyres. The wheels are regular ol' 15x8 chrome spokes. I dont care for tires sticking way out of the fenders, and mine are just about even with the edge of the body.

Isn’t 2.5” of lift a little on the short side for running 33” tires?

I have a really old 2.5" lift, maybe 14 years. I get some rub up inside the rear tire opening on the body, rear of front springs, occasionally on lip of the front fenders and every once in a while when really twisted up at the trailing edge of the rear wheel well opening.

What Jzeber said. You can cure a lot of that with proper length bump stops if you are so inclined.

2.5" lift on the '71 CJ was just right for 33s.
Here's a pic with the 2.5" lift, taken a month ago, ~15 years after installation

Now under new ownership (since 2007) ..the lift has settled a bit, but the combo with 33x12.50s still works very well.

On the LimoJeep, I run 33x10.50 on 7" wheels...
