I am looking for stock radiator hose(s) (part numbers) that are as close to the original as possible. Every time I inquire at the local auto parts they want to sell me the flex.

I do not have anything to match up and I am sure one of you have already gone through this exercise...

Upper and lower... Original 2 core radiator 22" x 17"

    Thanks:v6:

I've used flex hoses on mine for 16 years with no complaints.

The lower hose for the V6 can be tough to find even at good FLAPS...at least for a '71 model.

The lower hose everyone tries to sell isn't quite right. For one thing it has to be cut and that alone say's that it was actually made for something else. The bends are close but not close enough. I could never get it installed without kinking it. I ended up installing the original back in.

I installed one from Carquest but also installed a smaller oil filter so it clears ok. Seems to be working fine so far.

Go to the NAPA store and ask for a #7196. It fit my '70 just right, no kinking, no trimming and cleared the Fram #25 oil filter.

Isn't the '71 an odd year wrt the radiator and core support? Or does that extend to '70 as well. I recall something about that. Just be aware; the part for a '70 may not fit.

Some late 70 have the oddball radiator also. I just noticed yesterday that the lower outlet on my radiator is leaking probably do to having the wrong hose putting to much side-force on the neck. I like to run the bigger oil filter also, but will go back to the smaller style.

Most of the 1970 model Jeeps I've seen also had the 22"X17" radiator. That radiator is the same size as the the Commando for those years, shares the radiator shroud also. Imagine the hoses would also be the same

I took my old one to Auto Zone, they allowed me to look through their stock since they said the '71 was N/A. I found one that had the right bends, plus an extra bend... so I bought it, took it home, and cut off the extra bend... :D

The P.O. had flex on both ends so I was hopeing someone had an idea on the part numbers to go back to an original looking hose. The Jeep is its frame right now and I can't get to the Auto Parts to try to fit one up, just yet. I will check with NAPA on the one Don suggested and see if it fits (is that the top or bottom ???) I need both ends.
One question though on the oil filter Don mentioned... from the research that I have done the Oil filter reccomended for the 71 - V6 was the AC PF-46, WIX 51049 or Fram PH-11 are most of you running this larger size filter?
I have a 70 CJ5 four cylinder as well as this 71 V6 and they both have the larger AMC mount cowel for the radiator but do not share the same radiator I guess because of hose locations.

    Randy,
That hose # is for a bottom hose on a 22" wide radiator.
The PH25 oil filter I found on an old 225 I bought for parts, it looked like a good fit so I bought a new one.
I'll check out the numbers you showed next change.

What are you guys doing for the short hose from the thermostat housing to the back of the water pump? Is there a formed hose for this or are you just running a piece of 3/4 inch hose with a kink in it...

For the bypass hose, I just use a piece of heater hose. If you cut it to the right length, there isn't a kink..

Yes, they do make pre formed hoses that will work. It seems like every time I have it apart or need one, I forget to buy one...

The parts stores list the same FLEX hose (NAPA FF-206 1 1/2" X 14") for both the upper and lower radiator hoses for a stock 1971 CJ V-6. However, that hose is too long for the lower. It kinks and does not clear the oil filter. NAPA FF-197 1 1/2" X 12" fits, and clears the oil filter by about 1/2".

    Upper hose: NAPA FF-206 1 1/2" X 14"

    Lower Hose: NAPA FF-197 1 1/2" X 12"
