bendix or u-joint shafts?

    so the front diff has bendix style axle shafts...i have a set of u-joint shafts from a d27.......what type is "best"...asking because this is the first time i've seen a bendix and am wondering opinion wise..

    I have both sets as well. I put the D27 shafts in though. I like the idea of having replaceable joints. Once the knuckle parts wear out on the Bendix style, there isn't much you can do about it. The D27 shafts slide right into a D25 housing, but you have to put a "C" clip on the end of the shaft. I did have a friend who broke the Bendix type, but he came down off a log with the wheels turned. The D27 type may have broke as well in that situation. I don't know for sure.

    c-clip..the shafts i have from a 66 d27 dont even have a notch/relief for a c clip..and they didnt have them in the d27 i took them out of....hmmm?

    I don't know if all the D27s were the same, but mine definitively needs a C clip. It goes on the very end of the axle shaft after you install the lockout hubs. The D25 has a machined shoulder that rides on the end of the axle housing. My D27 shafts do not have the the shoulder and need the C clip to keep the axle centered in the housing.

    by c clip are you refering to a snap ring on the end of the shaft here ?

    Yes. That's what you need. Actually a snap ring.

    hands down the spicer shafts are the way to go IMHO :beer:

    My left side bendix shaft grenaded during a trail ride taking out the spindle and inner wheel bearing (swelled the spindle) been using spicer type ever since, no problems- oh yeah my D25 has a lockright.

    i just pulled the bendix out to clean the pudding off,,,i had already decided to use the spicer shafts...when i was washing it..i barely hit it with a spray of water and all the bearings went everywhere....:)...disaster averted..

    your not the only one who did that :rofl:

    I was taking my knuckles off and the bearings fell all over the ground.
