So I installed the heater from Summit; I'm more than impressed. While fitting the heater, the factory cardboard glovebox took a beating. And the location of the heater would not allow the factory size glovebox anyway. So, I ordered a plastic unit from Qtec. I thought I was going to modify the plastic box to fit the aux. heater. turns out the plastic box is smaller than my original cardboard box, and just barely fit in to place.

Good deal. A smaller glove box may not be all bad, If your like me no matter how big it is you will have everything you own in it and wont be able to get the door shut anyway :) . If you can shut the door on a roll of tissue your good R)

Does that summit heater fit in place of the orgional box and fit into the orgional defroster hose ocations? Plumb into the orgional water supply lines.

I guess, in my cryptic way, I'm wondering how hard it is to install and if it fits the stock location well.

Hey Patrick, can you get a comparison measurement of the replacement glove box depth compared to stock cardboard one? I put a '72-'76 heater in the CJ-6 and apparently didn't get it in exactly the same location as stock and now my Tuffy glove box hits the blower motor so it won't fit all the way in. I'd go with a plastic one to avoid modifying the Tuffy if it'll fit without too much trouble. I can use the Tuffy on one of the other Jeeps. Thanks! Nickmil

FWIW - I installed the Heatercraft version (I think Summit is just re-branding the Heatercraft).

I oriented the heater differently from Patrick and it fits in while allowing my oversized plastic glovebox to also fit:

The heater location on my Sixty is on the drivers side, and matches the firewall template the is located somewhere in the archives here. Being the middle of the Arizona desert where it is currently 50º F, I really don't need one. The Sixty never had one to begin with. On of those unnecessary accessory things, like a passenger seat and a second wiper on the passenger side.:flag::hurrican::coffee:

There's Howard's firewall templates in the technical library if that's what you're thinking of?

The plastic replacement box is pert near an inch shorter.
I temporarily ducted one port from the heater to the defrost. It might actually work..

That's the one. And I have a removable plate mounted on the drivers side firewall. The Fan shroud has the stand out on it for the fresh air tubing on the drivers side.:hurrican::flag::coffee:

i pulled out my cardboard glove box, put it on a bench, and built a new one with sheet metal almost the same but custom. same size opening. a little deeper here. a little higher hear. wider. a few tack welds. fresh coat of spray paint. took about an hour and i don't see ever having to do this again. metal is a beautiful thing. actually, i used an old metal fold up chair for the sheet metal. and my heater fits great!
