Bummer. That seems like more than vapor lock.

Now that the float levels are right and the Jeep is running good again, I changed the carb jets back to the baseline so I can tune it later when the weather is better. Then I cleaned/lubed the centrifugal advance weights and put in lighter springs. I'm getting about 21 degrees total centrifugal advance by 3400 RPM. I set the base timing with the vacuum advance disconnected to 9 degrees for a total of 30 degrees all in. Finally, I hooked up the vacuum advance again and adjusted the idle speed/mixture. Now it's purring like a kitten.

It's 25 degrees outside and the roads are a mess, so the test drive to see if I need more carb tuning will have to wait.

They don't sell non ethanol fuel in your area? It's all I run in anything with a carburetor.

In my area it can be hard to find. There's one little mom and pop mower repair place that still carries it in town. Even have the old school analoge gas pumps, no pay at the pump there. On the way into Dallas Bucee's carries it. My XJ runs whatever I out in it cause I drive it nearl every day. My old motorcycles I keep non ethanol in them because I don't ride them as much as I used to. The CJ will probably mostly be filled with non ethanol unless I'm on a trip and have no option.

I brought the 3a up to the garage in the house about a week ago, since I needed shop space to re-paint the hood on my wife’s car. Sitting for a week, the battery had a slow drain to the point of not quite starting. I had to charge the battery to move it today. That will be fun to diagnose. :steamed:

In addition to rerouting the fuel line from pump to carb I'm putting this filter in and running a return to the tank. This boiling the fuel and pushing pass the seats carb flooding thing is for the birds.

What regulates the pressure at the carb with that return line on the filter? is there a regulating valve in the tank or filter?

Do you know of they have switched to winter blend in your area? That would have a lower vapor point.

I’ve been thinking about this. It occurred to me yesterday that the volt meter is wired to an ‘always hot’ circuit. I thought I wired it to a keyed source, but apparently not. I might be asking the obvious, but would that drain the battery?

If it's always hot, then it should always be showing voltage and yes, that would drain the battery after awhile.

You might try Murphy USA at Walmart in Greenville. Most sell ethanol free gasoline.

Battery disconnect sounds like the solution with no diagnosis necessary.

If your step bit goes to big and you need to drill through, is this acceptable? Asking for a friend.... 25154.jpeg
