Parking brake pull handle

    I have just reinstalled the parking brake on my dana 18 which the PO had removed. What are my best options on a pull handle? and how and where do I mount it? I have been checking online but don't see anything for a 71.

    I would post a WTB ad for 71 parking brake handle

    or I would go a different route then stock like foot pedal, or pull handle out of car. both of these require modifications.

    Pull handle mounts bottom left corner of dash in my '69.
    Handle has mount hardware on it.

    If you can't locate one from a CJ find a handle off a 67-71 Jeepster, remove the welded on extension from the mount.

    The T-handle performs best as a parking brake and I'm not sure I'd trust it on a hill. A foot pedal from a later CJ or a hotrod lever handle would give much needed leverage.

    on Walcks I see the umbrella style pulls but they stop at I think 68. and different years look a little different with nothing listed for my year 71. can I use one of these for an earlier year?

    The plastic handles have minor variations but most should work until '71. The pedal style came out in '72.

    Or you could go a totally different route and install the one from an M38A1. Goes between the seats behind (towards the rear) the shifter.

    Ditto on the M38A1. I like the way it works.

    Also I think the post office jeeps had an interesting "lever action" dash variant. Or maybe it was the FC trucks.



    Edit - Lever was on late pickups and utility wagons.

    I like the idea of a foot pedal. I found a mopar on amazon for a 77-95 wrangler. would this work? It looks like it will bolt through the back of the floor pan . Would i have problems finding a cable that would work?

    That pedal would work. Many forum members have gone that route. I think there are minor modifications to be made. No sure on the cable, but others have done it, so there might be a source somewhere?

    Speaking as a neanderthal, foot pedals are better with an automatic than with a manual.

    You can run out of feet on a ticklish hill situation that needs clutch work. Also a hand brake can be feathered, whereas a pedal is all-or-nothing.

    neanderthal or not , that makes great sense. I did like the look and operation of the M38A1 handle, but I am trying to figure out what will be easy install so I can do it. Does the M38A1 bolt directly to floor between the seats? Then how do you run the cable so it is pulling on e-brake lever and what kind of mods would I have to do for a 71

    the link to "see them all" is missing the one I have pictures of. Not back in the jeep yet.
    this is a stock 1970 (built Oct 69) brake handle and where it mounts.

    AMC took over from Kaiser in 02-1970 and the changes for 70 and 71 are hard for me to follow.
    I have not found Official manuals from that time period , only 1972 and later.

    My '57 has the cane. Works okay, but it is really easy to hit it with my foot when I get out, and release it accidentally. Much prefer the military style.

    My '63 GMC pickup had one in it that was a long handle with a squeeze grip on it. In order to release it you had to squeeze that grip up against the handle before you could move the handle. Setting it you just pulled back on the handle. Mounted to the passenger side of the shifter.

    The one from an air-cooled VW would also probably work, and might possibly be easier to find.
