    Hi all,

Been tinkering as usual, started scraping digging and picking at the clots of old mud and clay on the bottom end, and I uncovered this at the back of the left side of my engine block.
Looks like it used to have a wire connected to it.

    What is it?

So if I do not have an oil pressure gauge........

It's for the original oil pressure idiot light. You definitely should either have this or a manual gauge.

OK where on the single large round gauge should that light be? I would love to get that light working if it exists. Oil pressure is my biggest fear...ok maybe next to temp, another gauge that does not work for me right now LOL...Hey while we are at it, where should I look for the temp sensor that SHOULD be sending the message to my temp gauge??

I would go away from the idiot light and put a mechanical gauge on it, that way you know exactly what the engine is doing.

The oil light is on the original speedo gauge cluster, I believe on the right hand side. It's supposed to come on when the oil pressure drops below the safe level but I wouldn't trust it. I put a mechanical gauge in mine, it was like $17 at the auto parts store. It will have a plastic tube that can screw into the same hole as that sender.

Yeah I was thinking new gauge for oil pressure anyway, good to know there is an easy replace. As far as the temp sensor, I have a wire still running from that. Both my gas and temp gauge are out, AND oil pressure light LOL its like driving a lawn tractor.

i like electric verses the mechanical. i had bad experience with a mechanical guage when the tube melted and leaked oil on a trail run.

Which model are you using? I had a tough time finding a universal electric one. I did switch out the plastic tube with a copper one, though.

Which is why I always used copper.

I've used both copper and plastic.

The Stewart-Warner installation kit (with plastic tubing) seems to be pretty tough. I was unimpressed with the SunPro installation kit.

I'd suggest, if you use plastic, sheath it in vacuum tubing, from the block to the gauge. And keep it away from the exhaust manifold.

1/4" split loom wire sheathing works well for either plastic or copper gage tubing protection and can be installed after gage installation. Copper tubing is better than plastic but given enough time, it can also work harden and crack. Plastic is especially bad if it is someplace that gets exposed to UV-it doesn't last at all well on old tractors unless sheathed.

Run a Tee off the port and use the idiot light and the gauge if you want to. What you don't want to do is let the tubing get anywhere near the travel of the brake pedal. If you lose enough fluid to allow the pedal to go to the floor while you're climbing a steep hill, it just may snap right through the tubing. Not only do you get a rude notice that you have no brakes, it smokes something fierce when the oil sprays all over the exhaust. Or, at least try to do this when you're only three or four blocks from the house. Trust me on this one.
