I can't find anyone that knows what this bracket might have been for. Has anyone seen something like this or know what it was used for? It may have been added after purchase, but it couldn't have been long after, because when I removed it, the paint underneath was the newest-looking on the entire Jeep.

That looks like the mounting bracket for a windshield washer reservoir bag, but I never saw one placed there before. Normally that bracket can be found on the rear curve of the driver side inner fender.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find an image of what you're talking about and move it if necessary.

Bingo! I've never even heard of such a thing. I'm learning a 100 new things every day about this project; lovin' it! Here's a photo I found on this forum of the same bracket; I'll check my driver's side fender tonight and see if it was originally mounted there. If I can't find anything, I'll probably put it back where I found it.

    Thanks again!

    65 would'nt have had a washer from the factory. Didn't appear until 69 or 70 I believe.

aallison 74 cj6, 76 cj5. Has anyone seen my screwdriver?

It could have been put on when the jeep was new enough for the paint to look good but still not factory.

I used to have a 1955(IIRC) Mercedes Benz 190SL and it had a water bag that looked identical except for the markings. Mine was marked Studebaker and I got a laugh out of that until I found out that in 1955 Studebaker was the importer and dealers for MB. It turns out that the water reservoir was a dealer installed only item so that bag was 100% correct for that year MB.

Somebody must've wanted one I guess: here's the washer nozzle on the cowl:

    jpflat2a what's that noise?

The w/s/w kit was an accessory item sold over the Jeep parts counter and was available long before it was ever a factory installed item.
Therefore, one could find the bag mounted almost anywhere.
The pump was foot operated and usually mounted on the left floorboard.
