Well, I couldn't wait. I had the machine shop bore it out .030, squared up the head, new valves and guides and turned the crank to .010

I put it together and installed in a CJ5 without a fuel pump, so I poured a little gas down the carb and vroom -- or whatever noise an F-134 makes and it just ran as smooth as new with great compression.

This engine was in pieces when I got it a year ago, and had been apart in an old barn in Indiana for about ten years before that.
It had been in a '65 Tuxedo Park with the number three piston in pieces.

    It looked terrible!

This engine is now in front of a T-98 in a 1970 Cj5. Since I got the jeep late last year without an engine this weekend will be the first time I've driven the T-98.

No big deal here - I'm just exhuberant !!

Good for you. That T-98 swap in place of my T-90 has been a project looming in the back of my mind for years. I'm just not sure of ground clearance with that setup and I'm a little apprehensive of starting a project like that. I doubt I would be able to find all the parts needed for the swap, like adapters, clutch linkage, bellhousing, crossmember, driveshafts, etc. Let us know how she goes.

Near as I can tell from the part manuals, some of the differences when the T-98 was used are"

    clutch cable
    cross shaft
transmission ball mount for cross shaft
    drive shafts
transfer case lever(s) I think that the rods are different too in the single lever system
    floor plate
    rear transmission to crossmember mount
adaptor plate trans to clutch housing

Now I haven't compared these parts to a T-90 installation, so I am not sure of what the differences are in the cable/cross shaft/ball mount; sometimes the differences were very minor and one could substitute the t-90 part.

I bought the 70 cj5 with the T-98 in Deember/January-- jeep was fully assembled except for no engine, so I have had no need to examine any of those other parts. The only engine parts I got with it were a water pump and starter.

If you don't have a mid 60's jeep parts manual, it would be a good investment to get one. All those little, minor parts are detailed so there is no guesswok as to lengths and thread sizes.

Assuming I have a fuel pump that works around the shop somewhere I'll have this baby running under its own power this week for the first time since I've had it and likely the first time in a long time.
