    The dang things are just stupid money so why couldn't you extend the frame from an earlier CJ-5 and mount an aftermarket body? Is the frame width the same from 55 on or were there changes at some point? I have access to a frame jig and tools, so that is no challenge. It seems that is should be farily easy to make a longer body work.

    CJ-6 fiberglass tubs can be found.

    I'm hurt that you'd think of a Scrambler before a nice CJ6...:rofl::)

    IMHO the way the factory made the CJ6 bodies isn't anything a good body man couldn't accomplish.

    1976 and later frames are different than the 75 and earlier frames

    Go with a CJ-6 about as long and no long over hang in the back:) No cat, wider range of motors.

    I hate to say this here, but I have never liked the looks of the CJ-6 compared to the CJ-8. The Scrambler has an extra 2 inches of wheel base, but seems to me to be in better proportion. Dunno.......

    I guess looks are pretty subjective, but I gotta like it. It seems though that the CJ-6s might be somewhat less expensive. I found a couple on line from the PNW that seemed to be reasonable, although I did not look at them in person.

    I guess I'll have to think about it some more.

    R)

    I understand - it's kinda for that reason that I like the 6 -- it's the forgotten/neglected middle child just like me...:).

    And it's funny...stare at one for a couple of years and those 5's just start looking so........stubby..:)

    Why not start with a stronger frame? Like an old Blazer or something like that? Use the stronger axles and drive train. Just mount a Cj-8 body on it.

    I like the looks of the CJ6, if only for the reason that no one around you will have one! :)

    Hmm, I like both. I really liked the CJ-8 one of the magazines did where the bobbed off a big section of that rear overhang. You can always build a CJ8 with the aftermarket frames and tubs available.

    As luck would have it, I found an absolutely, unmolested 78 CJ-5 today with a for sale sign. I have lust in my heart.

    This Jeep was drop dead gorgeous. It looked to be a perfectly maintained but used Jeep. I just can't stress how nice it looked.

    Maybe this is the fodder I need for a project although as nice as this one is, I would sure hated to make the first cut!
