I used a piece of 4 channel for my bumper. The mount plate looks great I wish I would have had that option, saves time

No work yet but did do some measuring. I have enough room between the right frame rail and saginaw box to drop it down like i want. Ill have the fairlead coming thru the bumper.
I already boxed both frame sections up to the radiator crossmember when i did the ps install. Plan is to attach the bumper with brackets to the frame. So the back of the new bumper will be where the front of the old one is now. That'll give me another 1.5" between grill and bumper. I wouldnt call it tight, but i havent had to get my fingers in there yet:D

On a side note, when you box the frame in for ps upgrade, leave some kind of room or weld in cage nuts so you can remove said front bumper more easily:whistle:
I have to cut the bolts holding it on now and will be doing some sort of welded on cage nut for the new one.

I used two pieces of 1"x 2" .090 wall steel tubing to shim out my bumper from it's normal position for more winch clearance. Original bolt holds it place sandwiched between the frame and bumper

A little more progress today. Figured out where the mounting plate will go and held the winch in place just long enough to make sure there was enough clearance all around. Should have about an inch on either side and 1 1/2-2" in the back.

Looking good. When I rebuilt the latest version for the 3B, to get the holes straight though both sides of the boxed bumper, I drilled a 7/16-14's bolt for a 1/4" pilot hole and had the winch mounting (both the 8274 and earlier Belleview/Warn) laid out on a 1/2" steel plate with all the holes tapped for the same 7/16-14 threads. I then clamped the plate up and drilled all the pilot holes. Maybe too much work but it produced very accurate results. If you were closer, I would lend you that apparatus. You could also trim some off the top of that mounting plate to reduce weight and air obstruction. I am also mounting the 8274 controller box remote from the motor.

And I too am a big believer in mounting front winches as low as possible without getting into clearance issues with steering components or boulders. The higher the mounting, the more you end up fighting yourself pulling out of mud holes, not to mention more air restriction to the radiator.
