Willys/ Kaiser And Paint/ Trim Plates On Engine Compartment Firewall

    Re. the paint & trim plate location, in the Serial Number & Vehicle ID document posted here !! See This Thread For Serial Number Or Vin Questions !! , the following appears on Page 13:

    This same document also lists the paint and trim codes used during the various model years.

    If I'm not mistaken, the above pictured CJ dates from sometime in the 1955-71 era. The location of the paint & trim plate shown seems to fairly closely match the area indicated on Ojgrsoi's photo in his post above.

    I can imagine there was a guy on the line with something resembling a Dymo label maker, and he had 21 seconds to punch in the paint and trim code from the build sheet, make the label, peel off the backing, and place it ever so accurately on the firewall.

    Yep, and he was probably the new kid that hadn't gone through the assembly training, so he got the job where he could do the least amount of damage. Or the old guy who earned the cushy job.
