I know that there have been a few threads about the oringnal color of the stock wheels. If I recall, they were alpine white or an off white. My question is, has anyone found a close color in a good quality rattle can application? I really like the look (mine are black at the present time) and would like change to white. Thanks.

I just painted mine today with Krylon Ivory. I think it's pretty close but maybe a shade darker than stock. It looks good and you probably wouldn't notice unless a side by side comparison. I think. Typical white is too WHITE and doesn't look right. Anyone have a better color, it's not too late to repaint mine.

I think Timgr has the Ditzler code for the wheel paint. I had it written down when he posted it in another thread, but I can't find it now. Maybe he will chime in or you could try to search the threads for it.

Nice rig. The Krylon Ivory looks good. Barring some suggestions of other WalMart (cheap) available paint. I think I'll stick with the Ivory. I'm not up for paying $10 a can for a correct color despite my quest for authenticity.

BTW The kid has figured out what a Jeep is all about - Cute

I just painted mine with Valspar ivory color. At first I thought they were too yellow but the more I look at them the more I like them. (They actually look more yellow in the pictures.)

Your color looks great. I felt the same about the Krylon Ivory color too but it grows on you.

Fantastic job painting those wheels, painted inside and out, thats a craftsman.

BTW has anyone decoded the markings on the wheels? Yeah, I know CANADA means they were made in Canada :)

Thanks. I figured since I had the tires off, I might as well paint the inside.

Looks like the "antique white" I once used on a set of wheels. I like the color a lot as well though, it sometimes appears too tan-ish or something (for my liking). Often seems to depend on the vehicle color.

Oh man, that's beautiful! Perfect! That's exactly what I want on my '56, the exact same wheels as that, and white too! I've got four wheels so far, need one more for a matching spare. I've got several 2A wheels I could use too.

I've been planning on having them powdercoated instead of painting, does anybody have any experiences with powdercoated steel wheels? Yeah or nay? Good or bad? Better than paint or not?

Forgive me, I can't resist putting this up again, but this is the '56 I'm rebuilding. It'll look just like this only all brand new, President Red, new Kayline top just like this one, and wheels just like the one 1959Willys posted. It WILL be finished some day, I promise..... Oh, I've got a venting windshield for it too.

I asked the guy who sandblasted my rims about powdercoating them and he advised me against it. According to him, powdercoating does not do a good job of getting into the crevices on the rims, such as the "slits" between the center piece and the outer rim.

I don't know for sure, but I took his advice and painted mine.

Speaking of the crevices of the rims, I bought a new reproduction one for my spare and it does not match 100%. The slits are smaller on the repro than on the originals. It is not immediately noticeable -- in fact, it wasn't until I was finished painting them when I noticed it -- but I'm sure it will bug the crap out of me.

And there are folks out here just waiting for you to sell the wheels on the photo. Here are those rims painted President Red.

Actually, they're a little different. I have no idea where my wheels came from, they were on the Jeep when Dad bought it. But they've each got four extra holes in them, like they're for mounting something to the wheels with. Kinda odd. I think they're 15x8. Here's a grainy enlargement. Not sure I'll sell them, but I probably will someday.

And here's what's odd, this is one of Dad's old hunting photos from 1961, of his buddy Kenneth and his CJ2A. Very similar wheels, looks a little narrower though. I can't even imagine what those holes were for.....
