Hey guys I'm new around here. I can usually be found at jeepforum.com and the guys over there recommended I join you guys also. Last fall I bought a non running 51 3A. As soon as the weather got warm this spring I got it out and now have it running. At the moment I am in need of a brake master cylinder and having trouble finding anybody that has one or can get one. All of the local parts stores keep looking at me like I'm crazy and telling me that it's an internet item. I have checked with 4wd.com and quadratec, neither of which has such a thing. Do you guys know any other places to look? I am also going to be needing a few other parts as I go so any and all suggestions will be much appreciated.

Another good place is right here. My parts collection is growing and it seems there is almost always somebody around here that has one of everything.

master cylinder should be no problem for them to get, napa can get them,i didnt buy mine at napa, got it through federated, the problem you are gonna run into is the guy behind the counter, too lazy to get out a book an look it up,or just dont know how to use a book,<if it aint in the computer we dont have it> so far the only thing that i have not been able to get is a starter,so take care of the one you have,it can be rebuilt, will see if i still have the MC #

brake shoes front and rear are the same,bb40 MC bbmc2796 wheel cylinders are different i dont know which # is front or rear, here are boath #'s bbwc16534,and bbwc16535,note bb may not be part of the # that is how it is printed on my recipt, and dont quote me on it being a federated # i thought it was and i am not sure now,i will check into it,hope these #'s help, sombody should be able to cross them, these #'s are for a 1955 CJ-5,but yours should have the same stuff, and if it dont sombody in here will let us know

I've had extremely good luck with walcks 4wd http://www.walcks4wd.com/

They seem to have everything, good price and the service is outstanding. I happen to live in PA (they're about 200 miles away) and if I call before noon, I'll have the parts in hand the next day. I must have ordered $600 in misc small parts over the last few months from those guys. I would recommend just calling in your order or faxing it to them and then give them a call to confirm.

If you feel like a little extra work, http://www.hermtheoverdriveguy.com/ offers a dual piston retrofit kit. It's tailored for a CJ-5, vs the flattys, but with some tinkering and a few other CJ-5 parts it can be made to work. Overall I probably have 15 hours or so in getting it to fit, but the kit is a good start.

A few hints that would have saved me a huge amount of time. 1) The CJ-5 may have a different pedal arm than the flatty, 2) you'll need an aftermarket frame/pedal pivot (or one off of a CJ-5) and 3) they make these brake line fittings that are 1/2" thread but with a 3/16" center hole in them. You'll need that (vs an adapter) to have enough room between the brake line and engine.

Send me an e-mail or PM and I can share a whole bunch of resources for new and used parts. I restored a 51 also... welcome to the club!

(Walck's and Krage Motorsports also get my vote, but there are many more for specific items...)

Uh, one of the major benefits of a discussion forum is posting stuff like this publically so more than just the one person can benefit...;)

I use Willys works, because they're just around the corner here in Tucson, Arizona. They have a website, but I don't know what it is 1 520 888 5082. He does have the cylinders, but when I showed him mine. He just went in the back and honed it out. I am doing the brakes on two jeeps so I went out a lot my own hone
for nine dollars, and I think the replacement seals and spring was only about
$8.00, you generally don't need the whole thing just the inside seals
