What's This Hole For?

    While pulling the engine for a rebuild, I noticed the bolt hole above the pcv cup and besides the number 1 exhaust port. Any idea what it was for?

    IIRC, there is another by the #4 port. I have assumed they are for un-used or potential exhaust manifold studs.

    It could have been for the L-head motors, I have heard they are the same block.
