I am not sure of the name of this. It looks like a main floor support. That ties the front floor and rear floor together. Mine is rotted out.

It's mostly flat metal and right-angle bends. I'd remove it and replace the rusted-out portions - easy compared to working on a passenger car, with all those compound bends. You could retain the center section with the curved part that meets the center hump, and patch in the rest. You could even do it in place - grind out the rusty metal, and make a cardboard pattern of the ground-out area. Cut a patch, bend as needed, and weld it in.

We had a post in the restoration forum about making your own brake - there are lots of such projects on the 'net. You could probably get by with tin snips and your bench vise to make your patches ... the panel is not front and center, and your repairs do not have to be perfect.

GOOD NEWS GOOD NEWS!! A buddy of mine's son came over tonite to get a look at the tub and what im working with. Hes got alot of sheet metal tools...flanging tool, bead roller, brake, and so on. His girlfriend is going out of town for a week. He said load up the tub and all the metal and bring it to his garage. Looks like the tub will get done alot faster and alot nicer. And lots of parts being made instead of buying them. PLUS he works at a metal shop. He will get all the metal we need at his cost.. I am just flipping out right now. The only catch? He wants his name on the willys somewhere. Thats not a problem at all!!! Hes building his mazda mini truck with a pontiac 215 aluminum v8 with air ride suspension with alot of custom touches. The work he does is top notch.

PLUS i got a lead on a 47 2a tonite for 250.00. Man its just getting better and better.

    Sweet!
Try Classic Enterprises for that riser. they have one for $85 made out of heavier gauge metal that is a real work of art. I ordered one for my cj6 and it's worth every penny. They make really nice stuff!
