I have a set from a scout Dana 30. I could not pull off the special round nut. So I only have the hubs

I read somewhere that If i do not run the round nut, but used the normal hex nut, I can run the Lockomatics like regular old hubs that I have to manually engage?

    True or False?

I was thinknig that also. I couldnt find the exact page i first saw some ino. I did read a thread that someone said to take out the plastic dogs to clear the nut. I will look at that tonight. i have some spare spindle hex nuts in the pile o parts.

I was going to sell the hubs but i didnt want the buyer to think he can just bolt them right now. I was going to sell them as parts

False! You cannot bolt the hub on with a hex nut in the outside position on the spindle. If you managed to, it would destroy that end of the Warn hub.
I have a set of lock o matic's that have been "bubba'ed" into just locking hubs. The cages for the plastic dogs, and the plastic dogs were removed. Before you tear yours up, I would be happy to swap for my modified parts. I have to see what I have. Yours are 27 spline? I think I have a set of Superwinch locking hubs, and may have a set of Warns if you would like to swap straight across. What ever you do, don't tear up an otherwise good set.
I love the Lock o Matics and would like to have a set of 27 spline ones.

They are for a Dana 30. I am not keeping them, i was just making sure about if they can be used without the round spindle nut before i sold them.

Are parts still available for Lock- O- Matic hubs? I found a NOS set when building my Jeep, new in the box, and installed them on my Dana 27. For what I do they are great. I only use low range for creeping up a grassy two track to my garage, or in the canopy of large forest when riding in the outback forest viewing. I would like to buy rebuild parts, like the plastic dogs you mention just in case. I had a set on a new 78 Scout I bought, and they worked well in Michigan winters.

The plastic dogs seem to last a very long time. I know I have put close to 90,000 miles on a fresh set of hubs I bought back in the day. They still work as they should to this day. The Lock o Matics that have been "modified" by previous owners will need a small parts kit, which is difficult to find today. I found a kit for my hubs last year on eBay out of Canada. There are a lot of different kits, so you need to be sure it is for your hubs. Unless your plastic clutches are torn up, or worn to the band spring, they should be fine.

Thanks Donny, Mine have only 6 or 7k on them in 10 years, but I like to have extra parts just in case. I have another set of hubs' but not Lock-O-Matic.
