Want to run Jeep with no hood, too much for aircleaner?

    Hey guys,

I'm planning to attend a Mad Max themed event (I guess party is a better term), out in California City later this year, that a guy I know started a few years back. For those that have heard of it, it's known as Wasteland Weekend. Now, back onto topic, in an effort to make the CJ more...aggressive? Post apocalypse? A friend and I are contemplating removing the hood and fenders, and poking around the area near the event in it. Now, my question is, is this a bad idea? Running without a hood and fenders? I might abandon the idea, as I'm concerned about having too much dust in the oil air cleaner (as the event is in the middle of the California Desert, plus, I think I would have to relocate my electrical ground).
I'd like advice, in any direction! :p

Nope. I have done it. Use a K&N.

I'm not grasping something here, are you saying to just change out the whole air filter assembly?

If I were, forwhatever reason, to run around without a hood (let alone without fenders) I would use a K&N filter and use filter grease to seal the upper and lower horn bonnet to keep the fine sand out of the engine as best as possible. Likely could use a paper filter, but I would use filter grease to keep the seal.

You should be OK without the hood, but I'd leave the fenders on. There's not much else holding the grille/radiator in place.

Now I didn't think about the radiator and grille, that could be a problem, last thing I want to lose 100 miles from home... jeep toss

There should be support rods running from the cowl to the radiator/grille.

The support rods will hold it in place front to back, but it'll still wobble side to side.

Photos coming in from the year's Wasteland Weekend last weekend revealed this little gem, exactly what I had in mind for my CJ except for the color.

Note this looks to be an M38A1 based on the two hinges on the grill and "soupbowl" on the side.
