Working on rear axle bearings, seals, and brake replacement now that fro t is finished. First time taking these apart and being thankful that the PO upgraded to 11” brakes.

I now see that it appears there could be a emergency brake option as I see the hole in the backing plate. I know I have to learn the full layout of that system and source all the parts but I have no idea what to look for since this is a upgrade from something else.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for info, diagrams, and parts etc fir me to add this?

Some one here will help you I know, this has been discussed several times. There is a lot of Options, an older Mustang brake handle between the seats, or a HiLo parking brake handle were some of the things I saw, plus I think I saw a Summit Racing brake handle. You will have a lot of help I am sure, Do you have a parking brake on the Transfer Case? I put a Knovak kit in my D18, and all new parking brake parts and my parking brake works good, it will lock up the driveshaft, no problem, but you have to make sure you have no leaks in the rear output shaft. Good Luck.

I used Lokar cables, equalizer and a between the seats handle. Straight forward and easy install and worked great. The boot for the handle came out of a Suzuki Samari I think. The Lokar boot didn't work well. I posted details of the install here, but can't seem to find them.

I did my emergency/parking brake last spring to hook up my 11” brakes. I used a foot pedal assembly from a YJ Wrangler, the three cables from an Intermediate CJ, fab’d an equalizer bar and some of the brackets underneath to hold the cables. Works great. Happy with how it turned out.

Looking at your pictures above, it appears that you have the spring, equalizer bar and lever. You also need backing plates with the hole for the brake cable. From there you can get to whatever pedal or handle you want with Intermediate parts. I'm sure this has been posted before, but it's easier to just give the part numbers. The two wheel cables are 999980, same left and right. There is an equalizer that the cables go to, 3172989. The cable from the equalizer to the pedal is 999978. Last I looked, the cables are available, and likely the equalizer too. If the equalizer isn't listed, you should be able to find a Ford or GM part that works - look on the Camaro sites etc. There is a bracket for the cable junction that attaches to the bottom of the tub - you'll have to make that.

Wow thanks! From a quick search where are these part numbers from as i dont see them coming up for me?

Also is there a certain model(s) these are coming from?

Does that cable work for under the dash or between the seats? Seems like length will be a concern?

He's missing the lever(s) that the cables attach to behind the brake shoes on the backing plate.

This took about 30 seconds from the link I posted above.

The bracket attaches to the underside of the floor between the seats.
