I am trying to get the vacuum wiper motor working on my 57 CJ5. They will swip all the way to the passenger side but they will stop when they get to the end of there travel when they go to the drivers side. This is the top mounted vacuum wipers are there electric wiper conversions for the over head wiper system? I only need one motor since the passenger side is manual.

Vacuum wipers have a sliding block that shifts the paddle from side to side. It will either be on the front or on the top, depending on what you are running. These blocks are lubed with grease and it can become hard with time, keeping it from sliding easily. I would remove it and clean/lube it.
The housings are aluminum and can build up corrosion over time. If the lubing the slider doesn't work, then you may have to remove the paddle assembly and clean out the inside of the motor and lube the pivot points.
Unless there is physical damage to the unit, cleaning and lubing usually fixes them.
Be sure you have enough vacuum to run the motor. If your running retarded timing or there is some other issue that keeps the idle vacuum low, it may not be enough to properly run the motor.
There are a number of electric wiper conversions available. They usually run between forty and fifty dollars.

Your situation is very typical. Ditto on the clean and lube. Be very careful with the small parts.
There are people on the interweb that provide this service.

Many good posts about this have been made on the forum in the past, if you search.

    Hi,

I had the same issue and I let it suck a small amount of ATF oil through the vacuum port - then I disassemble the parts that are connected to the button you use to turn them on. I use WD40 for that and compress air. They are now working OK but I get a sucking sound at idle when they are in the off position. I only oil the valve assembly when I put them back together because I was afraid to plug the small holes , now I'm guessing that I should have use some grease to seal them better, is that right?

if they swipe one way really slow it probably needs cleaned (I have lubed without disassembly buy introducing brake fluid to the vacuum hose port on wiper and manually working the wiper but you don't use too much or it leaks out and takes paint off) and re lubed, but if it swipes the one way relatively good I think that makes it either a valve is sticking or maybe the spring inside the cover has broken or popped off

I have been out working on them this morning I cleaned the old grease out of them and lubed them with ATF. I don't have a duel action fuel so I am having to run them off the intake manifold. They work great when the wiper arm is not on but when I put the wiper arm back on they slow down and stop. I have done some research and found out the electric conversions aren't that great and the bosch wiper motors are the ones to look for. But would a electric vacuum pump off a late model car with a vacuum canister work since F134 don't make alot of vacuum to begin with?

http://www.boatersland.com/afi-32002.html I've got 2 of this wiper kit on my 3B. The motor is the same size as the ones the suppliers sell, but I believe it is a higher quality product. They work pretty darn good. I originally got them from West Marine, but they don't have this model listed online, but have one that seems identical but is a different brand. http://www.westmarine.com/buy/seafit--standard-wiper-kit--P01207695 Definitely a cheaper price, but I don't know anything about it's quality.

We've discussed this before - That's $138 (or $82) for a single motor, and you need two of them. I'd think you could find a complete later windshield with bottom mounted wipers for that much money. The '76-up windshield can also be made to fit, but your top won't fit it if you already have a top.

I bought 4 new omix ada wiper electric motors from jeep suppliers and ebay. DONT BUY THEM THEY SUCK. They have no power at any time and they frequently stop altogether.

I'd rather have vacuum wipers that are original and kick *** at idle and I just need to let off gas at higher throttle sometimes for a wipe. But at the upcoming swap meet season I'm going to look for a cool can to make into a vacuum storage for the wipers then they should be great

I really like the military variant that has a small manual-assist thumb lever.

For when the vacuum doesn't suck enough, so to speak.

I agree, the bottom mounted wipers are awesome, also 2 speed. The windshields don't fit a 3B however. ;) I wouldn't recommend the individual motors instead of a bottom mounted setup, I'm just saying they seem to be of a better quality than the cheaper ones everybody sells, plus they have 11 inch blades which do work just fine if the arm length is adjusted properly.
