I did it. After much persuading by my sweetie I brought home Lulu.

Looks good! Wish I could find a good deal for once in my life.! Everything I find is worn out and I have to pay extra just to get to buy it. Love the view, don't be surprised if one morning you wake up and a tent next to a green CJ5 is on your front lawn. ;)

I'd be careful parking Lulu that close to your '70 until it adjusts :p Looks good- those front park lights are a bit large for my taste, tho ;)

    Nice ride!

Gonna keep that hardtop? I'm having crazy notions of making the CJ the daily driver....

Heck yes I'm keeping the hardtop. A little paint, fix 1 window that has a some difficulty rolling up. The glass is 100%.

Lulu will be built for my daily. Why wouldn't YOU drive yours daily...well I only drive 20 minutes max to work. Mike your CJ is very nice, tradeja my 2 for your CJ and bantam.

BTW, the madness continues. I looked at a 72 J2000 today. OMG, when is it going to stop.

Hey Brad: The top is like mine, so here's a tip on the window rolling up. The lower part of the mechanism that keeps the chain tight might be kinda sloppy. If the chain is loose it catches and binds when rolling up or down. If that's what yours does you might check that first.

Well, I don't have a typcial daily drive these days. Sometimes I have to go 30-40 minutes one way down expressways, and park in downtown parking garage kind of areas. Not places I want to leave a softop.

To be a daily driver I'd have to do a lot of little things - defroster, windshield washers, probably break down and put a powered wiper on the passenger side, etc etc... Biggest thing would be getting the OD back in and probably do the re-wire that I've been putting off.

Keep in mind...my ole CJ takes really good pictures - it's probably not nearly as pristine as you think.

And how to get rid of that Jeep smell? Be curious to see if you get that in a hardtop. That'd be the biggest thing - don't want to roll into clients smelling like gas and exhaust.

Anyhow, I'm getting ready to do some car shuffling. I've been driving this old Geo for 8 years, and it's in terrible shape. Got these 2 Willys wagons that I don't see finding the time for...so just made the decision to sell off the 2 wagons and the Geo and try to buy something for my wife to drive, and I'll take her Pontiac 6000.

A CJ5 with a hardtop is still a CJ5, but there is a difference as big as day and night between a hardtop and a softop. Driving to work is no big deal, but if using it as part of your work like you are talking about, you'd probably sometimes be wishing you had something better suited. Of course in bad weather that could be a different story, it might be perfect.

Actually, it's the bad weather I'm most concerned about. Frankly, if things are so bad I *need* the Jeep to get out, there's probably no reason (short of a kid needing to get to the hospital) to *be* out.

Most times I'd much rather have a nice low-center of gravity front wheel drive car in the snow. The Cj5, especially with the PowerLok rear, just isn't that great for typical snow-covered road driving.

I just dream of getting the vehicle count down to two...and being able to actually drive what I park in the garage...:)

So far in terms of work I haven't run into the need to have a "nice" car, but then haven't had the need to schmooze yet either..:)

I switched a few years ago from a soft top to a hard top on my 3B. There is a great improvement in the exhaust smell department. Still gets a little gassy sometimes, especially if I have just filled it and then ride over something rough. If you keep the tank less full it's not a problem. Heater works a lot better with the hard top.

I also have a hardtop for my CJ5, though it needs some work. Whenever the soft top wears out I'll put it on and leave it on. I plan to use the CJ5 as a daily driver this winter. I'll be commuting to the ski area 3-4 days each week, often over snowy roads. The 3B was great for that, but way too slow going up the mountain. I decided last winter that I was going to find a V6 - didn't want to convert the 3B because it's really very original.

I wouldn't want a PowerLock for winter driving.

Brad, glad to see you finally pulled it off. Having two is my dream, one a driver and one a showboat.

Could you e-mail a photo of the right rear quarter? P/O thought it would look better filled in on mine.

Just wondered what would happen if I went back to a really old thread and revived it. Some of these people have since changed vehicles and homes even.
