    I always thought it was 2 3/4 inches but do not know for sure. The C shackles on my 55 measure 2 3/4". The stock shackles from our cj7 are 3".

    YES 2-3/4" is the early CJ standard.
    The shackle only needs be long enough to allow your spring leafs to fully flatten.
    So optimum shackle length depends on your spring length and arc.
