I am having trouble removing the steering bell crank shaft and bearings. Does the radiator need to be removed in order to reach the top nut on the shaft?

Not that it should matter but which engine do you have? Having asked that you shouldn't need to remove it, but getting a wrench on there can be a bit of a challenge.

This is a CJ5 with a 4 cylinder Hurricane engine, we have tried evrything , but looks like the radiator will have to be removed to get to the top nut.

It does depend on what wrenches you have. I can get a short 1" open end wrench directly on the nut on mine. Removing the radiator isn't a huge job of course. ;)
