Squeaky Urethane Bushings

Well, I've just about had enough of the squeaky urethane bushings in my Superlift springs. They squawk with the slightest of spring movement; even when going down somewhat smooth roads. They're not the two piece bushings, they're the steel-incased ones. I've loosened the shackle bolts thinking that I had tightened them too much and they were binding, but that didn't help. Would greasable bolts be worth putting in? Anything I can spray on them?

 

Bob: I've got a Pro Comp 2.5" lift with those bushings. But mine are the solid urethane ones with no steel inside, I Think. Greasable bolts would definitly be worth it. Get one of those little tiny grease guns filled with "Urethane" grease (Qtech sell them). It's nothing more than Silicone Grease. They sell a ton of it on Ebay real cheap. You refill the little tube you get from ordering the grease gun. It's also known as "Dialectric Grease". It works wonders!

For a spray on fix, see if you can find "McKay's" Rubber Lube. Used it for years on squeky body mounts and A arm rubber bushings. It's a naptha based wax. Naptha evaporates and leaves a non sticky wax only.

the shackle halves or plates and/or the bolts
any chance you can shave any of the poly bushing off thats rubbing on the shackle plate?
other than silicone spray I don't know the answer
petroleum base will attract dirt like ants to Yogi's picnic!

 

Jim: You're abosoutely right. A dry silicone spray will work if you can't find the McKay stuff. I've still got 3/4 gal of it and it still works great. The dry silicone spray will work, but I've found that the carrier evaporates too quickly to really get into the parts.

But, to be honest, I don't know if they still make it anymore. Mine's over 15 years old. We used gallons of it back in the late '60's and early '70's when I worked as a mechanic. Solved many peoples complaints about "squeeks". Also worked GREAT as a oil free lube for leaf springs.

 

Thanks for the help guys. I'll try to find some McKay's or silicone spray. If those don't help, looks like I'll get some greasable bolts.
