    Hey all.

From my research (which please correct me if I am wrong), it looks like I have a 225 / dauntless v6 engine, borg warner t14 - 3 speed manual transmission, latter civilian dana spicer 18 transfer case, dana 44 rear axle, and dana 25 front axle.

I know that no automatic transmissions came in this year/make/model... but is there a bolt in possible? I have no issue with manual, and actually prefer it... but my wife wont drive it. Since this is a 'together project' I agreed to research what is involved in converting it to auto.

From what I am seeing, its simply not possible without replacing the entire drive train. Anyone know of an automatic transmission I can slap in without too much trouble? I'm ok with spending the $ on conversion kits, and ok with cutting into the body if needed (putting in a replacement fiberglass tub).

As for engine... looks like the dauntless in it is completely shot, but not 100% positive yet... If it is shot, I will likely go with a buick 3800 crate engine..

So... all that being said, any suggestions?

    A '70 has a Dana 27.

What's your definition of "bolt-in?" How capable are you?

The GM TH350 can be made to fit. The TH400 has also been adapted, but the TH350 would be easier, since it's shorter.

It sounds a little cavalier that you might "slap in" the transmission. It's a big project, and will require some planning. A brake upgrade will be needed, IMO.

Have you read the Novak site yet? Lots of good info there. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/th350.htm

Herm does a really nice Turbo 350 with an adapter that will take a 18 transfer case. I believe he is right at $1300 for it with the adapter installed. It is only 23 1/2" long and can be done with a BOP case Turbo 350 that will be a direct boltup for the Dauntless.

I put a th350 in my 71 with a 225 and a d18 case earlier this year. I love it!! The hardest part of it was gathering all the parts. Timgr is right lots of planning needed. I did not upgrade the brakes at the time of the install.

tx for the help guys! I didn't think the th350 would fit due to length. I remember it being pretty long from a few second gen Camaro builds I have done... But from what was said here, and from the Novak site... looks like I can order up a th350 with the splines set to whatever input/output I want... I guess its time to break down that dauntless and see if its usable or not.
