I have a '67 cj5 with a '69-'75ish windshield. How are these supposed to tie down to the hood?

On that note, I had an fj40 for a spell, and I really liked the setup they had on their hoods for holding down the windshield. Has anyone put something similar to the fj40 setup on their jeep hood?

mine has a strap in the center that catches the footman loop on the hood.

You will need the web strap and footman loop on center of w/s and the footman loop on hood to attach strap to.The '67 used entirely different setup than '69 when they changed w/s design.

they used to come with small hook that would hold the 'shield down to the hood. Along with the strap and footman loops on both the hood and the 'shield.

The 69-75 windshield doesn't have that. There's supposed to be 2 small stand offs on the hood, and a footman loop in the center of the hood.

Wasn't that to hold the hood up, when open? My 56 w/s hook is nowhere near the catch loop when folded down.

That’s what I was looking for. Did those stand offs have rubber glued to the top of them or was it just metal on metal?

You can see them in this picture. It's like an extra tall rubber coated footman loop.

    • Here’s a pic of mine... OEM hood, WS and hood mounted footman kit. The WS rests are coated with a Plasti Dip type rubber material to prevent metal on metal contact.

I welded the footman loops so they lined up straight and tie it down with a Velcro strap.

That's a great picture. I have an older hood, and I'm thinking about using the fj40 windshield bumpers since I don't have the windshield rests.

Also, I see you have replaced your windshield latch with what looks like the Advance Adapter setup. How do you like it?

Windshield to Hood Bumper Set CJ5, CJ6

My early ‘69 has these standoff’s attached to the top of the windshield frame. They’re covered with welting to prevent damaging the hood. A web strap described earlier in the thread holds it securely to the footman loop on the hood.

Yours must have the early windshield with the smaller glass. The newer ones have taller glass and there's no room for those stand offs.

That is my dad's Jeep. I have no idea about the tow bar, I think he put it on when he bought the Jeep in 1979.

The AA latches have been installed for over 20 years and are great!
OBTW... I’m now down in Satellite Beach for the near future for work. Still working the details to get my CJ down here...

Whatever's Cj5 has a later windshield with the taller arched glass (I swapped this one to him). He needs the two "tall" vinyl covered footman loops on hid hood as shown previously.
When are you going to come out and tell eveyone your CJ5 is actually a Tuxedo Park?
