    I was under my jeep last night thinking I had u-joints going bad which are needing replacement but my question is should there be rotational play in the spline slip joint? Seems like there is quite a bit

    No. If you grab the shaft in the middle and pull/push, it should have no play. Only in/out movement along the splines. I’d think rotational play would even be one step worse than side/side play.
