Hi everyone, now that I finish my '56 CJ3B restoration I am ready to start this new project.

    1957 Cj5 Sn 48194m Just Came Home

3B and CJ5 in these years look mechanically similar, particularly the F-Head engine.
Next week I am planning to remove the engine, place it on a stand and start the work.

I will need to replace some parts and although I have a 1959 Parts List Manual, I am slightly confused what are the specific parts for a year 1957 model. Is 1957 a year when there were some important changes like in 3Bs moving from 5 gauges cluster to single speedometer?

    Example:
Clamp Radiator Hose Ring Type 1957 Up

How should I know if some parts listed for 1957 are correct for my jeep? Or my jeep it is just in the middle of the change and she should look more like a 1955/56?

I hope you can help me dating my model correctly.

Thanks and I will keep update of the process in this post.

    Regards,

Engine is now out. It was rebuilt not long ago by the PO. I will do some check on valves and gaskets, clean, paint and install all period correct accessories.

Some more progress during the last week although not enough as I would expect. Still need to manage balancing the time on the project and family time...

On another post I shared some pictures of the radiator. Clearly they way it is installed is incorrect. I question if these radiators are OEM (Modine brand, dated December 1955). Also it seems the panel has been replaced by a taller one. Any thought?

With engine out, clutch out, flywheel out. I removed non original connections and have everything ready for cleaning and painting. Transfer and transmission was also removed and separate for maintenance and painting.

Some parts that will be black power coated

Flywheel ring gear needs replacement. It was already flipped.

Last, I found radiator fan blades hit at the same place. Initially I thought blades were just like that but couldn't find any reference online that shows that kind of indent on the blades.

    Cheers

I've been out of town for a few weeks so progress is limited.

Engine parts cleaned and ready for black powder coating

    Fan blades repaired

Engine cleaned and ready for painting

Transfer and transmission disassembled and ready for painting, followed by rebuilding.

Engine block painted (I'm sorry about the poor quality pics)

    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Next steps are to finish paint job on parts and rebuilt transmission and transfer. With that I should be ready to put everything back on the engine during the half of July.

    Cheers,

Looks like you have a good idea of what you are doing already. Did you post photos of the 3B Restoration? We love 3Bs here as well.

So during the last few weeks I made some general progress as I finish with the F-Head engine. It was not actually planned but I ended up dismantling the whole jeep and start working on the frame, springs and axles.

Frame needs some repairs. PO drove offroad a lot and I can see some damage on the main rails. At least it is straight.

Body floors will need a lot of work and that will come later once I have a rolling chassis.

Next I also plan to take the wheels out to work on axles and brakes.

I hope you enjoy the pictures and please all comments are welcome
