I just took apart my Spartan turn signal and cleaned it, painted, etc. I took pics of it all and labeled the wires under the dash. Now I got it together and am having some issues when plugged back into the CJ. I'm 99% sure the unit itself is all correct since I did not undo any wiring inside. Just cleaned everything including contacts, put on some dielectric grease and put it all back together. By the way, the color of wiring inside the Spartan did not match the write up of Jeep-Trucks, but he did say it does not matter. First when I put the original flasher in I get nothing. When I grabbed one I had laying around for years (probably back to the late 70's), when I go left, I get front and rear left on but no blink. Right side I get rights but no blinking. So I decided to test each flasher with the 12 volt charger. The pins on both are labeled P, X and L. I assumed at first P was power, L was lights and X was ground. But things were cutting off the charger. Based on the socket under the dash, it turns out the L is correct but the P is really ground and the X is power. When I test each flasher that way with an old bulb, the original flasher flashes the bulb (too fast but that's because the load is not right), but the one that atleast got me lights, it cuts out the charger again. The next strange thing is the light bulb in the flasher turns on when the key is on. I assume it should flash when the blinkers go. I did add a ground wire to the plastic loom to avoid the issue of good ground between the case and the steering column. Inside I attached it to one of the case screws and under the dash to the screw holding the 3 wire flasher connector. Suggestions or ideas!
