oil pressure

    have no oil pressure, removed the line at the block, used compressed air and had bubbling sound at the air filter thing on the fire wall. if i removed the dip stick air was flowing from there aswell. any ideas??? i realy dont want to pull the engine at this time....

    Assuming you have a 134, did you by chance remove the line at the bottom of the block, just above the pan? That drains into the pan so if you blew air in there it would come out the dipstick. Tell us more about your no pressure problem, how did this come about? What's the engine condition? Of course I just realized I'm thinking about the 6 cylinder hurricane, the 134 filter returns into the timing cover. Hmmmm.

    OK , A little history. pulled from barn-sat 20 years-engine tight-removed head, freed up, put back together. oil line running to filter broken. turned over to try to start it and oil flowed from line. plugged line temp. got running-no pressure at guage. removed fitting at lower back end driver side of block- ran engine , no oil flow. also no flow from filter line now as well, pushed air through hole, air comming out dip stick and bubbling in filter. i have removed pan an sump is clear. what now?? engine is a 134

    you might try priming the pump
    remove the cover and pack with vaseline
    gasket present and bolts tight for the pick-up tube/screen?

    Definitely sounds like it lost prime. I assume you're saying you blew air thru it after you lost pressure. Regarding the air I guess it must have backflowed thru the pump into the crankcase which would let air flow out the dipstick and into the filter if you have the line that goes from the dipstick tube to the filter housing.

    UPDATE, spring in oil pump in pieces... need to replace....

    I would just replace the pump IMHO. Don't forget to submerge the new pump in a quart of oil and rotate the shaft until you see that oil is flowing in/out as you turn it. Then you can bolt it up and be sure that you'll have oil on the first crank. Oh, and remove the distributor before the oil pump, marking the rotor position before you pull the pump. It is darned near impossible to reinstall the oil pump with the distributor in place.

    Good deal that you found the problem. I hadn't even considered that as being the problem.

    went to my local cj guy to try to find .... a new spring. he had nothing.
    does anyone has a spring they might part with?
    it is for the pressure relief valve. it is about 1.25 in. long and fits around a pencil. the valve has a ball type thing the spring pushes against.
    the one my guy had was smaller in radius and pushed against a cam like thing. will not work....

    I would replace the pump as Steve said just so you get a good positive flow. Walck's, 45 - 47 $107.00, 47 - 48 $78.00.

    I may be doing the same when I replace my gauges. I've been driving it with no gauges.

    It probably was a service part at one time (long ago). There may still be one out there - the problem would be finding it.

    Try posting in the "want to buy" section. Someone may have a junk engine or oil pump that you can take it from.

    Replacing the complete oil pump would be best and fastest, if you have the means.

    Not to mention that a new oil pump will breathe new life into an aging engine. Before I rebuilt my L-134 completely I had ~20 lbs oil pressure at ~ 3000 rpms. After replacing the pump,, I had that at idle, and it went up to ~50 at high speed. If it weren't for the rings being shot, I might have just cleaned up the engine and called it good, since the bottom end was still in good shape. (amazingly!)

    I found one at "The Jeep Doctor". He is mailing it out today. I also went to my friend at the machine shop. He tested the old spring and gave me a close replacement to try. I installed it and WOW, the idle pressure was at 20. Didnt run it long though. I will wait for the oem part. The Jeep Doctor guy couldnt have been any nicer. I will deal with him in the future. Thanks to every one for all your help.
    Now on to the 12V conversion.....
