Uuhhhhh...for those of you who were wondering, you CAN use KY-jelly to prime a oil pump. I replaced a timing chain and realized I had no vaseline, or assembly lube here and well, push came to shove as they say. Worked great and was smooooooth! ;)

It's called foreplay, woman like it but it does take some time away from jeepn' unless you live alone then you could go blind or get hairy palms from that!

    (as he boldly responds) ...

Unless I'm mistaken, K-Y is like Surgi-Lube ... water based. Doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

How Long did it take to get your jeep excited about this project? Hope you don't substitite lubriplate for KY!! Next time just turn the distributor shaft to pre lube the pump, it works on almost every other motor made.

it is petroleum based, and without some type of something in the oil pump housing and gears, turning the shaft doesnt always do it. an older pump has a hard time priming itself. I have never built one of these engines (5 buicks ) where the pump would prime itself. I have used assembly lube, as well as vaseline, (which most of the old timers recommend as well as is in some engine books) and now this. Once I got it running, I always change the oil just to get any debree or water and junk out of the pan fromt he process. Just thought I'd pass it along.
    and oh BTW....lets say I found it. ;) ;)

    xxxx

So let me see if I got this right. When push comes to shove and an older pump has trouble priming itself, use K-Y jelly. R)
    Is K-Y sheep?
Gotta run this by the Mrs.

sorry gents, no pictures, and no videotapes.......I couldn't talk her into it. I wasn't even supposed to tell. Seriously though I thought some of you would get a kick out of this. It did work though. If any of you have read about any of Granville King's field fixes, thats what I thought of.
