My water pump in my v6 finally gave up, and now I am having trouble finding a replacement. :(

    Here's the details:

    Dauntless v6 - casting 991503
    1971 (I think) - date code looks like 12*F0
The old pump is 4.5" from pump mounting surface to fan mounting surface.

    The problem:

I ordered one up, but when I recieved it I found it was only 3.5". I found a part number on the old one (31036) but I am being told this number does'nt work. The local places are having a hard time to find me a pump.

Would anybody happen to have a part number so that I either order one or cross refrence it. Thanks

I just bought abrand new one at alocal mom and pop store about a year ago. They are the short design and not the later long nosed one. I think they are about 3 1/2" tall.

Cool, Thanks for the info guys. I will check into the 350 buick pump and see if it will work.

McRuff - Are you saying that the pump, and therefore pulleys (I think thats spelled right) are from a later engine. With the short pump I have my pulleys contacts the water pump housing.

I will try to get some pics posted. I can't belive something so simple is turning out so difficult.

FWIW, the pump I just replaced looks exactly like the new one you just received (from that angle). Trust me when I say "replace all hardware"...

Quadratec sells a Flowcooler brand pump for the 225, but I think its the short one like you have. I have a new pump for the 231 that has a longer shaft on it so you might try that. I need the short shaft because I run an electric fan. The flowcooler made a huge difference in how hot my Jeep used to run. Good luck

I got lucky removing the hardware. Only broke 1 of the 1/4" bolts, and i was able to screw the rest out once I had the pump off. I will just have to careful putting it back together, Hardware looks in good shape though.

Talked to the guy at my FLAPS again, and he might have found me a pump. He's going to talk to the supplier and see if they can measure it before they send it.

The 225 and 231 pumps are the same - except - for the length. I can not remember off the top of my head, bit I believe the longer one is for the 231. You may have a 231 pump and pully set on a 225 engine.

I can measure tonight when I get home if you need it - both sitting on engine stands in the shop.

Thanks for the help, this sure had me scratching my head. Guess sometime in the past it had been switched over. Ahh, the joys of owning an old jeep:rofl:

Anyone have a list of the correct bolts? Is there a bolt kit?

Are you talking about the long bolts? IIRC it took me a while to find replacement bolts. I finally found them at Grainger.

The factory parts book should list all the bolts, but I don't have a book that goes back that far. Pretty sure you will need to buy or make the bolts you need - never heard of such a thing as a bolt kit.

McMaster-Carr is another good source: McMaster-Carr

I think I would thread both ends of some rod and make a stud, rather than buy a specific long bolt.
