so my recently purchased 1958 CJ5 seemed to have had the oil filter removed at some point. I'd like to put one back on as it spends a fair amount of time on dirt roads. Can anyone tell me if the original stock configuration is the way to go or would upgrading to a spin on filter be better? Also any diagrams and part numbers would help. I'm having a hard time location the info I need. Thanks!

Personal opinion? I like the original canister style, and I generally like to see Jeeps kept close to original.

If you switch, make sure you understand the difference between partial flow and full flow systems. It matters for maintaining oil pressure to the bearings.

Thank you. I to like the original style so if there isn't a large benefit to updating it, that's the route I'll take. I have been reading up on the other threads to learn more about bypass filters.
