M38a1 Steering Wheel

    The original steering shaft, which yours might be, ended with a spiral worm in the Ross steering box. It is common to have the worm cut off to attach a u-joint to. Likely this is the case for yours. I too think if you can remove the steering wheel adapter, you can use your stock replacement wheel on what you have.

    Thanks for the replies. Does anyone know what thread was used for the nut? If I can get the appropriate die I may be able to clean up the welds after I remove the flange.

    I doubt youll be able to salvage that but it would be easy enough to sleeve the new piece to splice it on the old shaft. My dj column is a little shorter i guess because the shaft actually runs through the motor mount so the angle isnt nearly as steep. Youd be smart to pull it out anyway and make sure that u joint is properly attached to shaft
