Limited slip or not limited slip?

    Hey Guys

    As a follow up to the GL4 GL5 discussion, someone pointed out that if you have limited slip differentials you should use a fluid with friction modifiers.

    So...as far as running gear my 58 is an F-head, t90 bone stock original rig so uh....do I have LSDs??

    Should be open/open. But who knows if someone changed something somewhere in the past.

    It would have come from the factory with "Use limited slip oil" tag under a cover bolt. A LSD (limited slip differential) is a pretty popular option - no reason it would not have had a LSD just because it's a 4-banger.

    If no tag, put both wheels in the air and see how the wheels turn. If you turn one and the other turns the opposite way, it's likely an open differential. If the opposite wheel turns the same way, it's a LSD.

    good time to inspect the gears as you change the fluid. I just changed drivetrain fluids on the daily driver (new to me). found it had a LSD, but the clutches, spider gears, and side gears are shot, no external tag. so I'm for inspecting before neglecting.

    You'll know it soon enough when you start to plow...

    In 2WD on snow goose it to spin the rear tires. If you go straight, no LSD. If your rear end goes sideways, LSD.

    In 4WD do the same thing. If you crab walk, LSD front and rear..
